Folsom Homes Near Parks

Sheldon Park Offers Tennis and Soccer
This past week I just listed a newer home in Coventry which is a small subdivision located less than a block away from Sheldon Park in the Natoma Station area. The beauty of this property is it’s proximity to shopping, transportation, schools and parks.
Some people think that just because you’re located close to those services that it must be a noisy neighborhood but this is a mistaken assumption. This particular property was recently re-sided with a 50 year cement siding that virtually makes the house soundproof. The house faces the court behind so there are no neighbors yards backing up to this and all you hear is the usual street sounds of a cul-de-sac.
One of the outstanding features of this home is the layout. The main floor utilizes the space well and the upstairs has three bedrooms with one designed for an office. The backyard has enough patio to entertain and is low maintenance. It’s hard to believe but this house is a fair market sale, no short sale, no bank foreclosure…just a regular listing. So if you’re interested please view the video and give me a call to take a tour.

Folsom’s Double Rainbow
April 11th, 2010 categories: Folsom CA, Outdoor Activities, Special Events
Second Saturday in Folsom CA
The return of Second Saturday last night was a hit with local merchants enjoying the crowds and beautiful weather holding until this afternoon’s rain storm. The rain cleaned the air and left a beautiful double rainbow hovering over Sutter St. in historic downtown Folsom.
Another amazing feat is that parking on Sutter St. is possible. I actually found a place to park in front of Hop Sing Palace last night! The rennovation is starting to take shape and I’m looking forward to the finished product.

February 8th, 2010 categories: Folsom CA, Outdoor Activities, Sacramento, Tennis
Folsom wins bragging rights!
The 2009 season came to a close with Folsom Park winning the final game against Roseville’s Sierra View with a score of 2-1. The women’s 6.0 doubles team started with lessons from Ed Mitchell’s Bryan Solem and within three years managed to take Top Dog status at the Sacramento Area Tennis Association’s (SATA) competition.
First line Antonette Clark and Norma Thomson lost to Kerry Weinroth and Robby Denning 6-1,6-1. The third line of Ellen Desvarro and Christine Volker won 6-0, 6-2 against Joyce Bray and Angelen Simao. During the last game, Ellen Desvarro pulled her calf muscle and was unable to run leaving little room for error. The final tie-breaking game was won by Sandy Kennedy and Beth Mergens 7-5, 6-2 against Sierra View’s Betsy Newington and Liz Adkins.
Spring 2010 tennis season begins in March so if you’re looking for some great tennis and fun gals to play with email me with your information or go to the Top Dog site for more information about Sacramento area tennis.

Rodeo and Fireworks July 4th in Folsom Ca.
June 30th, 2009 categories: Folsom CA, Outdoor Activities, Special Events
Cattle Drive at 6pm July 1st in Folsom CA
Time to cowboy up! The annual Folsom Pro Rodeo starts Thursday night July 2nd at 6pm with the cattle drive on Wednesday July 1st on Sutter Street followed by live music in the historic district. There is also the 1 mile footrace called the Bullipedes which starts at 5pm just before the cattledrive.
This year with July 4th falling on a Saturday you’ll need to get your tickets early. Look for the Family Discount Package online and don’t forget to register your little ones for the Muttin’ Busting contest.
One of the great things about going to the rodeo over the 4th of July is the fireworks display put on each night at the conclusion of the rodeo. Since this time of year is so dry and dangerous and the types of fireworks considered “safe & sane” are getting in the words of my children “boring” having the option of seeing a great show is just another bonus to a night of family fun.
Just remember to get to Lion’s Park early since the area once available has been taken by the new library and seating is limited. You can pay the extra to park close by as some of the local businesses will be charging to use their parking lots or you can pay to shuttle from Wal Mart. Remember to bring your cooler’s full of drinks and lawn chairs and spray bottles…it’s gonna be hot!

El Dorado Hills CA Thursday Night Concerts
June 20th, 2009 categories: El Dorado Hills, Outdoor Activities, Special Events
Summertime Rocks at Town Center
One of the great advantages of living in the Sacramento valley is the great weather coupled with people who like to have a good time. The El Dorado Hills Town Center hosts concerts every Thursday night starting in June through to August which proves my point. The great part is that it’s FREE and in today’s economy that’s something everyone can afford.
The town center is a relatively new addition to the sleepy suburb of El Dorado Hills but is quickly making a name for itself with the variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment available. The new movie theaters offers IMAX and the Nugget Market has everything the gourmet could hope to find in a grocery store. Nestled in the foothills this area south of Hwy 50 is expanding with new home subdivisions, commercial and professional space all without losing it’s country charm.
Other events hosted here include an Art Fair in May, various holiday fairs with photos and a Wine Tasting in the fall.
Events held at the Mercedes Benz dealership are usually advertised throughout the local business community for a variety of non-profit organizations. If you would like to know more about securing this venue contact the business center for a schedule and fees.

REI Hosts FREE Ski Equipment Clinic in Folsom CA
December 30th, 2008 categories: Folsom CA, Folsom Lake, Outdoor Activities, Skiing, Snowboarding, Special Events
Learn How To Professionally Maintain Your Equipment
Every so often there is a seminar about taking care of equipment that I would actually want to attend and considering the high cost of maintaining my skis this looked like something worth the effort. I barely give my skis a thought until it’s time to drag them out of the closet and head up the hill. Let’s face it, tightening bindings and waxing skis isn’t exactly exciting let alone sharpening edges and checking for tensions. So when I got my monthly email reminder from REI and saw this seminar I thought I’d share the information with all you ski and snowboard fans.
There are other events that REI has and trips too! On my hike yesterday with the Sacramento Trail Mix I met a gal who told me about a trip to Utah to see Zion Canyon and others this June. Apparently REI sets up trips across the world for various interests and this hiking one sounded fantastic. It includes all meals, transportation to/from the airport, lodging and guides for a week. Airfare was not included but the price was reasonable and knowing you’ll be spending time with other folks who have similar interests makes it appealing. Finding friends and family who move at the same pace with the same interests can be difficult and this offers a great way to take a vacation focusing on what you like to do.

New Bridge in Folsom CA Almost Finished
November 20th, 2008 categories: American River, Folsom Bridges, Outdoor Activities
Bridge Opening Scheduled for Spring 2009
Riding my bike along the American River in Folsom CA, just past the entrance to Dam Rd., there is a makeshift lookout to gaze upon the new bridge under construction. This amazing feat of engineering reminds me of pictures of the dam being built but a whole lot more fun.
Speaking of pictures, the photographer who chronicled this and other building projects has a great website www.DigitalSky.us that shows a history of the bridge under construction. Todd does an awesome job and it shows in his work. He also has photos of the tower bridge, the capitol, Crocker Museum & others.
The bridge is ready to open this spring 2009 and the cost overall is estimated at $132 million with Folsom paying about $32 million. There will be four lanes & a bike trail which makes for a perfect round trip bike ride from the historic district where you can rent bikes. The bike path is paved and also great for walking or jogging.
The other event coming up in Folsom is the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day. For more information you can see my blog post of Nov. 9, 2008 which has all the links to register and explains the details.

Thanksgiving Day Race In Folsom, CA
November 9th, 2008 categories: Folsom Lake, Jogging, Outdoor Activities, Special Events
Folsom Twin Lakes Food Bank Benefits
Capitol Adventure is once again hosting its Turkey Trot Run to benefit Folsom’s food bank and the community is responding with an enthusiastic yes despite the economic news. This year’s runners will enjoy the trails throughout the Parkway and there will be “chip timing” to accurately gauge the winner and runner ups. This being the land of Intel I’m not surprised that the latest technology in race results would be readily available and I’ve read that it will produce immediate web-based race results.
Folsom is developing quite a reputation for outdoor activities due to the consistently great weather and numerous parks and trails. This past election voted in Ernie Sheldon who has been instrumental in the development of the parks and recreation dept. in Folsom and even has a park named after him! We look forward to more opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors through his leadership.
Another local charity “Coats for Kids” is collecting gently used and new coats to be distributed to children and I am proud to say that my REMAX Gold office is a drop off point for the Folsom community. This is a time sensitive donation and the cut off is NOV 15th. If you have any coats you would like to donate and cannot get to the office please give me a call and I will be happy to pick up any donations you have and place them in the barrels at my office or you can drop them at 2340 E. Bidwell St.

Folsom Soccer Membership exceeds 3000
October 29th, 2008 categories: Folsom Lake, Outdoor Activities, Soccer
Teams available for every level of play including adults!
Soccer is a game taken very seriously in Folsom Ca. thanks to one council member, Ernie Sheldon, who also happens to be running for a city council seat next week. According to the Folsom Soccer Club website there are over 3300 children playing soccer in Folsom every week from August until December depending on which level of play they participate.
There is an adult soccer league as well and if I remember correctly there are men over 50 still playing (go figure!) Matter of fact, the registration deadline for the 2009 adult league ends on Dec. 05, 2008.
This is a game that challenges every child to participate and eliminates most children by the time they reach high school. I know that I was one of “those” parents who would scream from the sidelines for my children to kick the ball…what else would they do? Anyway, my 6 year old son set me straight his very first game. This little guy comes walking off the field, straight up to me and declares for all to hear…”stop yelling my name, it distracts me!” I was effectively barred from ever calling out his name for the entire season. The next year all four of my children started tennis lessons. If I couldn’t scream like a lunatic (and all the parents qualify here) then I would simply require the rest of the parents to behave as well…and they are supposed to behave while watching tennis!
Folsom ranks as one of the largest leagues in northern California and the growth isn’t expected to stop for another 10 years. There are more parks scheduled to be built, and with the expansion of the south of Hwy 50 area, more teams will develop as new subdivisions get built and parks open. The next couple of parks to open will be in the Empire Ranch area and will definitely include soccer fields although most will cater to the youth leagues.
There is one synthetic field located at Kemp Park in the Broadstone area that is the first of it’s kind in northern California. I usually see the adult leagues playing there and have been astonished to see guys playing during their lunch hour…those Intel geeks take their soccer very seriously…seriously!
